with Michael Bertiaux.

We are delighted to announce Fulgur Press is offering the first entirely new book by Michael Bertiaux for more than 20 years. Vudu Cartography explores the mysteries of Vudu through chants, oracles, seances and a symbolic system of images – all connected by a descriptive narrative which leads us, like a dusty highway, through the shimmering landscape. Drawn from his experiences in Haiti, Bertiaux’s own evocative voudon ‘art brut’ images create a map for those regions of ‘invisible power’, giving the reader ingress to the ‘mysteries and hiddenesses of an exotic theology, with its spiritist twists and turns and esoteric spaces.

In 1920, D.G. Nelson first opened the store that still actively purveys the finest in esoteric texts and supplies.

The first storefront was at 611 N. State St, and was frequented by many of the personalities of the world’s Occult History. The store moved again to 645 N. State Street a number of years later.

Later the bookstore moved to 3230 N. Clark St, and then in 1992 moved to the Flat Iron building in Wicker Park, into the space now occupied by the Earwax Cafe.

Now 87 years since first opening, The Occult Bookstore embarks upon its newest endeavour, with a new storefront at 1164 N. Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Ashland and Division in Chicago, and our soon to be launched online store, we are at your disposal to provide you with all of your magickal needs.
